The newly elected executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Taraba State Council, have paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Information and Re-Orientation, Hon. Zainab Usman Jalingo.

The team, led by the Council Chairman, Comrade Sule Agyo, said the visit was to formally introduce the new leadership to the Ministry and to strengthen the existing relationship between the government and journalists in the state.

Agyo noted that journalists in Taraba need a closer working relationship with the Ministry to effectively publicize government activities, and appealed for improved welfare and better equipping of state-owned media houses.

In her response, Hon. Zainab Usman Jalingo congratulated the new Exco and wished them a successful tenure. She assured them of her full support and the support of the Ministry.

She described journalists as critical partners in governance and development, saying her Ministry, as the main information engine of the state, will work to deepen the cordial relationship between the government and the NUJ.

The Commissioner added that the Ministry will also look into better structuring of state-owned media stations and the welfare of journalists.

Hon. Jalingo used the opportunity to highlight some major achievements of Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, which include the declaration of free education from primary to secondary schools, massive reduction of out-of-school children, prompt and regular payment of salaries and pensions, provision of palliatives, remodeling and equipping of primary healthcare centres, massive road construction and rehabilitation across Jalingo and other LGAs, restoration of peace and security, youth and women empowerment programmes, support for agriculture and procurement of tractors for farmers, as well as reforms in the civil service.
